Gateway to Gold: A Pre-College Summer Experience

Students working in a computer labThis summer, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's Lilly grant-funded Gateway to Gold program hosted 149 Indiana high school students to introduce them to college life and academic opportunities in hopes that some of them will be prospective 51³Ô¹ÏÍø students. This is the second year for the highly successful program.

"Fifty percent of the high school seniors from last year's program were offered admission to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, so it has a high success rate," says Kim Morton, director of pre-college engagement programs and special assistant to the President's Office.

Gateway to Gold introduces rising high school sophomores through seniors to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s liberal arts experience, fosters students’ confidence in their problem-solving abilities, and enhances their college readiness skills through two-day, one-night on-campus experiences. Students choose from a number of courses in one of six themes. They also enjoy a dinner series with alumni who discuss their 51³Ô¹ÏÍø experiences, personal branding, and networking.

Their families benefit from sessions with Admission and Financial Aid to learn about the options and opportunities for gaining admittance and financing a college education.
